Would you partner with us by hosting...?

The Last Taboo

DiscerningTogether

Learning in partnership

We often look for districts, circuits or churches to partner with us in offering new or existing opportunities to learn.  In 2023 we are introducing two new courses and would love to hear from a circuit, district or church who would offer to host them.  They are:

The Last Taboo: a workshop developed by MHA to promote confidence in talking about death and dying in a positive and supportive way. Death is the only certainty in life and yet we are often quick to avoid the topic. This training is an opportunity to discuss best practice in end of life care, wishes and decision making with others in a non-judgemental setting. It is open to all people, whether you are involved in health and social care or not and would be particularly helpful for those in pastoral ministry, lay or ordained, paid or volunteer.

Discerning Together:

The discernment course is a resource to support groups in Christian leadership to learn together how to make good and prayerful decisions. The aim  is to help people pay attention to God in their particular context, to identify and avoid distractions, to listen carefully to each other and to move forward together.

Major decisions will require several weeks or months of prayer, information gathering, listening and reflecting. This course aims to begin that process, helping to establish a prayerful and reflective basis on which to base the decision-making process. Groups will not complete this course having made a decision – that is not the intention. Rather they will complete the course having considered together how the decision can best be made and having been equipped with a set of tools which will help them make a prayerful and thoughtful choices.

If either course offers value to your circuit, church or district in your context and you would like to discuss hosting please get in touch with Alison Ball

More than the newsletter can contain:

There are many more opportunities to learn and develop offered by the Methodist Church.  We cannot include them all here.  However you can see more and keep up-to-date as new ones are added by following this link.

Finally, to the beautiful people of the Methodist Church in all its forms, who give and give and give again - at this advent time, this newsletter comes with the prayers of the North West and Mann Learning Network team.  That you and your loved ones will experience rest and recuperation, joy and celebration, and the warmth and companionship of God's Spirit with you as you approach the wonderful season of Christmas.

The Atonement Debate:  Wednesday, 15th February & Wednesday, 19th April 2023 at 19.00-20.30 hrs

Our next Theology Book Club, facilitated by Simon Sutcliffe, will be exploring the book “The Atonement Debate” edited by Derek Tidball, David Hilborn & Justin Thacker.

The book is a published set of papers from a symposium held jointly by the Evangelical Alliance and the London School of Theology after Steve Chalke controversially denounced the idea that God was punishing Christ in our place on the cross. What does it mean to say that “Jesus saves us?” How does the cross save us from our sins? What does this mean for our faith? Come and join in the conversation.

You can register for both dates here
