Today is Windrush Day and marks the 75th anniversary of the first crossing from the Caribbean. You can watch a video of The Caribbean Contribution. The video talks about how Notting Hill Methodist Church became the hub for those who came from the Caribbean during the Windrush movement. Below, you can read a prayer by Revd Arlington Trotman, Methodist Supernumerary Minister: God, Father of all: We thank you for Christ Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit. You have sustained us with abiding grace, that as peoples of the Caribbean, we are enabled to mark the 75th Anniversary of an historic journey to the United Kingdom, on the HMT Empire Windrush in 1948, pioneers of a new age. Your grace has enabled the People of Windrush and their descendants, to accept the Government’s call to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure following War. We praise you, that Your assurance of peace helped us in this task, and confronting rejection and oppression, we worked and worshipped, reflecting your justice and love. Bless our celebrations reflections and future! Grant that we heed your wisdom in life worship and word, that the People of Windrush and British society generally would reciprocate your love in all we are and do. Amen. |

This week is Refugee Week and to mark it, we are sharing the stories of those seeking sanctuary and discovering how the Methodist Church is responding to the global refugee crisis. You can read a selection of blog posts and watch this video on how different leaders of faith stand with refugees. Below is the Collect for Refugee Week from Revd Dr Inderjit Bhogal, a founder of City of Sanctuary Movement: Migrant God, free from borders, your presence spans all creation. You take sanctuary in us, in you is our eternal sanctuary. We behold you in community with those uprooted from their homes by war, poverty, persecution and extreme weather, especially those who make their way to these shores on small boats. Be the shelter of their lives. Bless their courage and resilience in seeking freedom and sanctuary. Bring us to build cultures of welcome, hospitality and sanctuary for all; Community where there is conflict; Compassion where there is cruelty; Humanity where there is hatred; Hospitality where there is hostility; And so, to practice and proclaim hope. In the Name of Christ. Amen |

The Leadership Year is an exciting opportunity for 18-30 year olds across the Connexion, who want to invest time in developing their leadership abilities. It is aimed at those who may just be starting out in a leadership role, or who are wanting to be involved in leadership, which may be within, or outside, a church setting. Centred around 3 residential weekends, with evening online gatherings and the opportunity to meet with a coach, it is a chance for young leaders to be in community with other young adults, to reflect on what it means to be a Christian leader (in church, secular workplaces, and local community) and to develop characteristics needed for self-aware, visionary, resilient leadership. There are 12 fully funded places available. |
