Spendmore Lane Methodist Church has been a living presence in the heart of the village since 1903. We are a vibrant, growing church which offers a warm welcome to all who cross our threshold.

Traditional Sunday morning worship starts at 10.30am and is followed by coffee and fellowship in the church hall.

On the first Sunday of the month, we have an Evening service at 6pm which is amore reflective time of worship and held in a smaller room off the church hall.

We have a short Communion service on the first Tuesday of every month at 11.15 am.

Throughout the year we have a number of special services including Taize, Café Worship, Summer Songs of Praise, Lent, Easter and Advent meditations to name but a few.

We also welcome the community into our church on a regular basis through Open Doors Activities, organised events and lettings.

Open Doors Activities take place from Monday to Friday every week from 10amto 12 noon offering -

Monday: Card Making.
Tuesday : Coffee Morning.
Wednesday: Water Colour Painting.
Thursday: Chat, Soup, Sandwich and Armchair Exercises.
Friday: Dominoes.
Saturday : Men's Brunch which is held bi-monthly.

Organised Events

We have a very active and hard-working Events Committee who organise various special Coffee Mornings throughout the year, seasonal fairs, Outdoor Markets(making full use of our lovely church garden) and other social and fundraising activities.

Further outreach includes special services at Springfield Care Home, the distribution of Easter chicks and Christmas Angels throughout the village, Community Carol Singing around our outdoor Christmas tree, Home Communion and Pastoral Visiting.

Lettings

We are pleased to welcome various organisations who rent our premises throughout the week, offering a wide range of activities and support for the local community.

SPECIAL EVENT

In 1926 Handel's 'Messiah' was sung for the first time at Spendmore Lane and has continued to be sung every year since, so that on November 30th 2025 we will be celebrating the 100th performance of this wonderful oratorio in our church. Over the years it has evolved and grown into an amazing and quite unique occasion – a real act of worship – involving professional soloists, orchestra, augmented choir and buffet tea. An occasion not to be missed!
