Tickets for this year's 3Generate, the children's and youth assembly of the Methodist Church, will be on sale until Friday 21 July. We’d encourage you to start promoting the event with your children and young people now so you’re ready to claim your spaces! To help with promotion, don’t forget that the 3Gen after movie is available (see below or download from Vimeo here). There will also be lots of useful documents available on the website from Monday and our FAQs page for this year is up to date and available now.

In March, the London District welcomed children, young people and their group leaders to its annual youth and children gathering; where they explored eight powers young people have to be Agents of Change in the world. You can read about the day, which was facilitated by three of our Youth Reps, here.


These materials have also been used at the Sheffield District's Youth Day and in the children's stream at Yorkshire North and East's Flourish event.

JPIT INTERNSHIPS


The Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT), run three annual internships, hosted by the Methodist Church, aimed at recent graduates aged 21-30. These are 12-month, full time, living wage roles, starting in September 2023.


Applications have just opened for the full-time role, which focusses on communications, engagement and research. Applications for this role are open until 22 May.


FE SUNDAY THIS WEEKEND


This coming Sunday 14 May is Further Education Sunday, an opportunity to pray for your local college and its students and staff.  Simply beginning to pray for your local college is often a great first step to knowing it better and considering how you might partner with that college in loving service.

GENERATION FORUM

HOW RACE IMPACTS THE WAY WE DO MISSION AND MINISTRY


Monday 12 June 2023, Cliff College and online


Generation is a Cliff College research centre that explores research and conversations on evangelical approaches to ministry and mission among youth, children and families.


The next forum will feature a paper by Clare Williams, Founder of Get Real and Tutor for the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. Then, in addition to the usual space for conversation and Q&A, we will also have a panel discussion with Clare, Richard Oppong-Boateng (Youth Evangelism Officer for the Methodist Church) and Daud Irfan (Methodist Youth President 2021-22).

OPPORTUNITY FOR METHODISTS AGED 18 TO 35


Friday 29 September - Sunday 01 October


Methodists aged 18 - 35 are encouraged to apply to join a small group representing the Methodist Church at 'Together - Gathering of the People of God', which will be taking place in Rome. Around ten thousand young people are to attend, from all across Europe and from differing denominations. Find out more about this event, and how to apply here.

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID COURSES IN 2023


All courses take place online.

 

Places on these courses are prioritised for Methodist leaders, workers, volunteers and parents. If you are not Methodist and would like to attend a course, please contact Lynne Norman and she will ensure you are added to a waiting list.


Space on the course is severely limited and so you are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment. Participants will need to attend all four sessions and complete approx. 1.5 hours of self-guided learning between sessions and ahead of session 1.


The cost of attending the course is £35. This covers the price of the course materials (which will be posted to your home address) and the Eventbrite fees. This training has a recommended retail price of £300 and we are offering it for a heavily subsidised price to those working for the Methodist Church. You can find out more about MHFA training here.

YOUTHSCAPE ESSENTIALS


Youthscape Essentials will form part of the Methodist Church’s Children, Youth and Family training pathway. This program is designed to give confidence and skills to volunteers working with young people in churches and community projects. The course explores insights into the lives of young people, relevant skills and character development. It is suitable for anyone involved in or interested in developing ministry with young people (aged 11-18). The material has been developed and piloted in a Methodist Circuit in partnership with Youthscape.

This is a free Facebook live event for all parents, carers and those involved in children’s lives, organised by Parenting for Faith. How do we coach our children through exam season? An opportunity to hear from some of the writers and scientists involved in creating Messy Adventures, a new resource consisting of twelve units of materials to give the most unconfident leader the tools and confidence to take Church outdoors. Emotional spaces: The student journey through Higher Education and beyond

Off-site safety management course

Fun and highly engaging two-day in-person course from Pharos, working in partnership with the National Youth Agency. It aims to help youth workers and/or managers responsible for off-site activities, trips and visits, make these experiences safer for young people and staff. Be prepared to roll your sleeves up with a wide range of highly practical tasks designed to highlight the risk issues you might encounter in an off-site or residential setting; this is much more than the normal classroom-based training! Led by two Godly Play trainers, these three-day courses offer a mixture of trainer-led sessions and opportunities for coached storytelling by participants. Each day focuses on a different kind of Godly Play presentation (sacred stories, parables and worship) to help you understand how different styles of Christian language support spiritual exploration. Dignity for All conference

The Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT) is partnering with Church Action on Poverty and the APLE collective to host this conference about ending poverty where the real experts are at the centre: people who experience poverty. Nurturing your baby or toddler’s spiritual life

Parenting for Faith invites all who have a baby or toddler in their lives – or who are currently in the adoption process or pregnant – to a fun and relevant 4-week online course especially for them. The course is suitable for those on the fringes of faith as well as mature Christians. Churches can sign up for £50, and distribute the Zoom link to as many families as they like. Alternatively, there are limited spaces in a male-only group for Dads and male carers (£20). Find out more and book here.

Walk Humbly - Student Christian Movement national gathering

In Micah 6:8, God asks us to ‘act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God' - this weekend will consider how to put this into practice through speakers, workshops, worship and fellowship. The keynote speaker this year is Ashwin Thyssen, a junior lecturer in the Department of Systematic Theology and Ecclesiology at Stellenbosch University. There will also be two members from the devolved nations sharing their experience of student Christianity and life in Scotland and Wales, as well as workshops led by members and special guests from Women and the Church and The Council of Christians and Jews (tbc). National Estate Churches Network Conference 2023

The theme for the conference is ‘God With Us: Sharing our journey’, with opportunity to share examples of God at work and good practice in estates ministry, as well as practical workshops and fellowship. Beyond conference

Frontier Youth Trust and CURBS are hosting a learning day for those interested in connecting with children and Young people BEYOND the walls of the Church. Most children and young people no longer have a connection to a local church. The old patterns of ministry to children and young people within our walls has to change. The day will create space for youth and children's work practitioners to share stories from their practice. A collection of speakers will deliver short Ted talk style presentations followed by roundtable discussion. Find out more and book.

Community organising

Beginning at 6pm with dinner on the Friday evening and ending after lunch on the Sunday. This course is a starting point for anybody interested in community organising. It will help develop an understanding of what community organising involves and what it looks like in the real world.  Participants will start to explore how people come together so that they can understand and take action on their concerns to build community and overcome social injustice. Find out more and book here.

This is a three-day fun and inspiring retreat for all children’s, youth and families’ workers (paid or unpaid).
